Ten microsatellite loci were isolated from the earwig Labidura riparia (Pallas, 1773). The polymorphism of the loci was assessed in 24 individuals from one population. The number of alleles ranged from four to 11 alleles and observed and expected heterozygosities from 0.250 to 0.833 and from 0.551 to 0.861, respectively.  相似文献

Habitat enhancement for birds is frequently implemented during mine site restoration. Cliff‐nesting birds often colonize anthropogenic environments such as mining areas (aggregate sites and quarries for aggregate and cement production). Mining activity can compromise breeding success, causing cliff‐nesting birds to depend on the management and restoration of mining areas. The objective of our study is to assess the importance of mine site habitats for Sand Martin conservation and reconcile mining activity with breeding success in Mediterranean environments. We studied Sand Martin breeding habitat preferences in mining areas at three spatial scales. At the mining site scale, we compared 10 mining sites with Sand Martin burrows with 19 mining sites without burrows. At the colony scale (vertical structures with colonies), we evaluated the relationships between the number of breeding pairs, number of burrows, and colony characteristics within 30 distinct Sand Martin colonies. At the burrow scale, we compared the characteristics of the available vertical structure with the areas used by Sand Martins. At the mining site scale, Sand Martins preferred more surface of water bodies, shorter distances to flowing water, older sites, and mining sites which produce aggregates instead of cement. At the colony scale, Sand Martins preferred southwest orientations and stockpiles to vertical extraction faces. At the burrow scale, birds preferred the most vertical areas of the face. Our results support the need for effective habitat restoration and improved management for more effective Sand Martin conservation within mining areas. Simple interventions can enhance habitat quality and conservation of cliff‐nesting birds.  相似文献

崖沙燕繁殖期雄鸟的鸣叫行为   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
2003年3月~2004年4月在南充市郊的嘉陵江边记录了崖沙燕(Riparia riparia)繁殖期雄鸟的呜叫。声谱分析结果表明,崖沙燕繁殖期有8种呜叫(恫吓叫声、屈服叫声、求救叫声、警报叫声以及4种鸣唱声)。通过对其行为的实时观察,确定了每种呜叫的生物学意义。4种叫声是整个繁殖期的主要呜叫,而4种鸣唱声则主要出现在开春以后的集群求偶与筑巢期间。虽其鸣唱声仅有两种类型的短音节,但通过组合可形成含有多达4个或6个音节的鸣唱声。鸣唱声的持续时间分别为3184、1030、1274、1232ms。鸣唱声中的间歇时间分别占持续时间的47%、39%、50%、48%。  相似文献

Background and Aims

Submergence and de-submergence are common phenomena encountered by riparian plants due to water level fluctuations, but little is known about the role of physiological integration in clonal plants (resource sharing between interconnected ramets) in their adaptation to such events. Using Alternanthera philoxeroides (alligator weed) as an example, this study tested the hypotheses that physiological integration will improve growth and photosynthetic capacity of submerged ramets during submergence and will promote their recovery following de-submergence.

Methods

Connected clones of A. philoxeroides, each consisting of two ramet systems and a stolon internode connecting them, were grown under control (both ramet systems untreated), half-submerged (one ramet system submerged and the other not submerged), fully submerged (both ramet systems submerged), half-shaded (one ramet system shaded and the other not shaded) and full-shaded (both ramet systems shaded) conditions for 30 d and then de-submerged/de-shaded for 20 d. The submerged plants were also shaded to very low light intensities, mimicking typical conditions in turbid floodwater.

Key Results

After 30 d of submergence, connections between submerged and non-submerged ramets significantly increased growth and carbohydrate accumulation of the submerged ramets, but decreased the growth of the non-submerged ramets. After 20 d of de-submergence, connections did not significantly affect the growth of either de-submerged or non-submerged ramets, but de-submerged ramets had high soluble sugar concentrations, suggesting high metabolic activities. The shift from significant effects of integration on both submerged and non-submerged ramets during the submergence period to little effect during the de-submergence period was due to the quick recovery of growth and photosynthesis. The effects of physiological integration were not found to be any stronger under submergence/de-submergence than under shading/de-shading.

Conclusions

The results indicate that it is not just the beneficial effects of physiological integration that are crucial to the survival of riparian clonal plants during periods of submergence, but also the ability to recover growth and photosynthesis rapidly after de-submergence, which thus allows them to spread.  相似文献

The morphology of a bird's tail may result from compromisesbetween aerodynamic efficiency, phylogenetic constraints andselection for non-aerodynamic characteristics, such as mateattraction. A good example of a trait shaped by trade-offsbetween aerodynamic efficiency and reproductive benefits mediatedthrough female preference is the tail streamer of the barn swallow. Here we use a standardized task to measure the impactof manipulated tail streamer lengths on maneuvering flightin the barn swallow and in the sand martin, a closely relatedspecies that lacks a streamer. Our results show that the tailstreamer of the barn swallow has a role in maneuvering flight. However, the outer tail feather is approximately 12 mm (9-20%)longer than the aerodynamic optimum for maneuvering flight.Furthermore, we show that the addition of artificial tail streamersto the sand martin, enhances maneuverability even at smallstreamer lengths, thereby implying that tail streamers mayhave evolved via natural selection for increased flight performance.Our results therefore suggest that initial tail streamer elongationin the barn swallow has a functional explanation in terms of increased aerodynamic performance. However, female choice hasbecome associated with this trait, promoting the developmentof a costly handicap.  相似文献

Despite the current treatments against Chagas Disease (CD), this vector-borne parasitic disease remains a serious public health concern. In this study, we have explored the in vitro and/or in vivo trypanocidal and cytotoxic activities of the essential oils (EOs) obtained from Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin & Clemants (Amaranthaceae) (DA-EO), Lippia alba (Mill.) N.E. Brown (Verbenaceae) (LA-EO), and Tetradenia riparia (Hochst.) Codd (Lamiaceae) (TR-EO) grown in Brazil Southeast. DA-EO was the most active against the trypomastigote and amastigote forms in vitro; the IC50 values were 8.7 and 12.2 μg mL−1, respectively. The EOs displayed moderate toxicity against LLCMK2 cells, but the DA-EO showed high selectivity index (SI) for trypomastigote (SI=33.2) and amastigote (SI=11.7) forms. Treatment with 20 mg/kg DA-EO, LA-EO, or TR-EO for 20 days by intraperitoneal administration reduced parasitemia by 6.36 %, 4.74 %, and 32.68 % on day 7 and by 12.04 %, 27.96 %, and 65.5 % on day 9. These results indicated that DA-EO, LA-EO, and TR-EO have promising trypanocidal potential in vitro, whereas TR-EO has also potential trypanocidal effects in vivo.  相似文献

The exotic temperate liana (woody vine) Celastrus orbiculatus has become a weed in Michigan, occurring in many of the same habitats as the native liana Vitis riparia. However, C. orbiculatus frequently develops into extensive monospecific infestations, while V. riparia does not. Freezing-induced embolism may be responsible for limiting liana distribution. Root pressure has been observed in numerous tropical lianas and temperate species of Vitis and has been implicated as vital to the recovery of xylem function in wide vessels following winter freezes. For both of these co-occurring lianas we investigated root pressure and water conductance as possible explanatory factors for their differential spread. According to our hypothesis, C. orbiculatus should have produced greater or more frequent root pressures than V. riparia. However, the reverse proved true, indicating that root pressure is not a prerequisite for weedy proliferation of C. orbiculatus. Additionally, the seasonal patterns of specific conductivity of stem xylem indicate that each species responds differently to environmental constraints. Vitis riparia establishes conductivity early in the growing season, before the leaves emerge, using root pressure to reverse embolism, but loses conductivity with the first freeze in early autumn. Celastrus orbiculatus is slow to establish conductivity, depending on new wood production, but leafs out sooner than V. riparia and maintains green leaves after the first freeze. Vulnerability curves of xylem to cavitation caused by water stress for the two species indicate that they respond similarly to dehydration. These results indicate that root pressures are not responsible for the invasive success of C. orbiculatus and suggest that other factors must be key to its prolific invasion.  相似文献

We investigated the influence of native flora and fauna on the establishment and persistence of the exotic weed Ageratina riparia (Asteraceae) in disturbed and regenerating rainforests on the Springbrook plateau of south‐eastern Queensland. The height and ground cover of A. riparia was positively associated with light availability beneath the rainforest canopy and negatively associated with forest leaf litter biomass. Regenerating rainforest with the associated increases in litter and decrease in light availability could therefore inhibit the establishment and density of A. riparia. The red‐necked pademelon, Thylogale thetis, browsed extensively on A. riparia, but the pattern of browsing was not associated with light availability, forest leaf litter biomass or density of A. riparia. Browsing and incidental damage by T. thetis breaks up the broad stands of A. riparia. The physical damage caused by T. thetis, and the inhibition to establishment and density of A. riparia by native plant species, combine to reduce the environmental threat associated with A. riparia.  相似文献

20 0 3年 2~ 6月 ,通过观察法对崖沙燕福建亚种的洞巢进行了考察。崖沙燕巢多筑于水边沙质硬土悬壁的沙土与黄壤交错的沙土层 ,且主要选择在沙土顶部与黄壤交界的部位啄洞营巢 ,喜利用旧巢洞。巢洞呈椭圆形、坑道状 ,多单洞道 ,洞末端扩大成椭球形巢室 ,具巢的洞深 ( 64 3 8± 1 1 73 )cm(n =5 0 )。巢室内外温度差异大 ,而巢室内昼夜温度稳定。繁殖力高、体型大的个体占据中心区深洞繁殖 ,巢多呈半圆状。窝卵数 ( 3 89± 0 92 )枚 (n =3 6) ;多数巢内有一枚卵未孵出 ( 63 3 %) ,孵化率 83 0 4%。  相似文献

结合民族植物学和药理学的研究方法,对西双版纳地区傣族、哈尼族和基诺族等3个少数民族民间利用番石榴(Psidium guajava)、余甘子(Phyllanthus emblica)和水柳(Homonoia riparia)的传统知识进行调查研究及体外抗菌活性实验。结果表明:番石榴和余甘子在村寨中较为常见,当地少数民族将其种植于庭院中,常作为果蔬食用,食用番石榴嫩叶可缓解拉肚子的症状,治疗腹痛、腹泻。水柳生长在水边,傣族会将其叶作为腌酸鱼的配料之一。根据文献记载,番石榴、余甘子和水柳的叶部位作为药使用时,常煎水外洗,治疗皮肤瘙痒。对这3种药用植物叶部位采用80%乙醇浸泡制备的提取物进行体外抗菌实验,结果显示番石榴、余甘子和水柳3种药用植物对金黄色葡萄球菌和大肠埃希菌均有较好的抑菌和杀菌活性,其最小抑菌浓度MIC在98~390 μg·mL 1之间,最小杀菌浓度MBC在98~781 μg·mL 1之间。番石榴和水柳叶对铜绿假单胞菌有一定抑菌和杀菌活性,其MIC和MBC范围均为6 250~12 500 μg·mL 1。由此可见,这3种药用植物的民间利用具有一定的合理性和药用开发价值。  相似文献
